About the Founder

I am Dr. Shivangi Baruah Pegu, the founder of Breathe Chidananda Baruah Alzheimer’s Awareness Campaign.
I founded this campaign as a deeply personal tribute to my grandfather, late Chidananda Baruah, who lost his life to the devastating disease of Alzheimer's in the year 2012. Hailing from the state of Assam, India, he retired as respected IAS officer. Witnessing his journey as a child—and the profound impact the disease had on him and our family—shaped my resolve to ensure that no family faces Alzheimer’s without awareness, support, and hope.
At 26 years old, I am a doctor trained at JSS Dental College and Hospital, Mysore, Karnataka, India; where my medical education strengthened both my scientific understanding and my sense of responsibility towards public health. My clinical background allows me to approach Alzheimer’s not only with empathy, but with evidence-based purpose and long-term vision.
This campaign was founded to honor my grandfather’s memory by transforming personal loss into collective action. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to the global fight against Alzheimer’s disease—by raising awareness, reducing stigma, donating to research institutes, supporting patients and caregivers, and actively working towards a future where effective treatment and, ultimately, a cure are possible.
Through this initiative, I aspire to bridge compassion and science, local action and global impact, and to stand with every individual and family affected by Alzheimer’s disease. I wish my resolve brings in lifelong commitment to healing, advocacy, and hope for all the people suffering from it.
